Pike High School Baseball Team Eyes State Championship with Unbeaten Spring Start

INDIANAPOLIS — Pike High School's varsity baseball team has opened the 2025 season with a 14-0 record, already matching the school's best start in program history and positioning the Red Devils as one of the early favorites in the 4A state tournament race.

Led by senior ace pitcher Marcus Webb, who carries a 1.12 ERA through 11 appearances and a Division I commitment to Indiana University, and power-hitting first baseman Damion Cole, who is batting .418 with seven home runs, the Red Devils have defeated several of Central Indiana's strongest programs in their unbeaten stretch.

"We've talked all winter about what kind of team we want to be," said head coach Dan Rawlings, in his 12th season at Pike. "These guys came to spring practice ready to compete at a different level. I've never had a team this focused this early in the season."

The Red Devils' schedule stiffens considerably in the second half of the regular season, with games against Lawrence North, Carmel, and Hamilton Southeastern — programs that have combined for more than a dozen state championships in the past two decades. But Pike's pitching depth and an offense that averages 8.4 runs per game give them the tools to be competitive.

Catching Prospects

Webb is expected to draw professional draft attention in June's MLB Draft. Several Indianapolis-area scouts have been regulars at Pike games this spring, along with additional college recruiters eyeing junior outfielder Devon Strickland and sophomore shortstop Kyle Ibarra.

The Red Devils host Lawrence Central in their home opener Friday night. First pitch is at 5:30 PM at Pike High School's Tom Barner Field. Admission is $3 for adults and free for students.
